“Help! Help! Someone save me!” Emmet yelled out over the crowd.
His eyesight blurred as he began to cry, his life flashing before his eyes. Emmet used what little strength he still had pounding against the monster’s grip; barely breathing as it tightened its hold around him.
The crowd went berserk, stampeding over one another to get away as they screamed for their lives. The monster was like oobleck, it’s goopy but when it’s in contact with a force it hardens like a rock. The green gooey monster trudged over to the fleeing mob, snatching people with arms like tentacles.
As the monster lifted Emmet towards its widening mouth, he screamed as he felt himself get closer to being swallowed. Its mouth stretched wide with no teeth, just a dark hollow hole. Emmet screamed and screamed for help, for a hero. But none heard his cries. With one last shriek, his voice collapsed and his tears ran dry with horror. Emmet thought only of his family and friends, from family game nights to sleepovers. He shut his eyes closed, waiting for his end.
Emmet felt his body warm and lightless like he was flying through the air. Leisurely, the sounds of the rushing crowd behind him came back. Along with a soothing but stern voice.
“Hey kid, are you alright?”
Emmet opened his eyes, looking up to a tall robust man, with one glance Emmet would give this man every ounce of hope he had. He opened his mouth to speak but it was still sore, instead, he nodded.
Emmet watched from afar as the hero Slingshot dashed towards the monster without an ounce of fear. Emmet was washed over with assurance, and hope. A hero came. He was saved. They were all saved. The monster could easily pick on the weak, but against Slingshot it didn’t stand a chance. The battle itself lasted minutes, but it felt like seconds. Slingshot dodged all of the monster’s attacks, its tentacles smashed holes into the ground; and when the few punches Slingshot delt didn’t work he resorted to his Right Fist Smash, one of his most powerful moves. In one fell swoop, the oobleck monster dispersed into a million pieces.
The hero saved the people and the monster was destroyed.
The people rejoiced, cheering with delight of the victory. Those who were injured, like Emmet, were given medical attention. Emmet quickly scanned the crowd, searching for Slingshot. Emmet spotted Slingshot just as he left, he quickly chased after him. When Emmet found Slingshot, he was in deep conversation with another hero. Emmet stood behind the wall, waiting for his chance to thank Slingshot. As he stood waiting he overheard Slingshots comment.
“They keep getting in the way, maybe I should have just let that monster eat them. Good riddance,” Slingshot hissed.
Emmet ran. Thinking to himself, But they’re supposed to save us. Slingshots words replaying in his mind. Why? Emmet begged for an answer. Then he realized…
Heros were the real monsters.
